In plain English: this policy is mainly about temporary processing. The app needs to read what you scan or upload to give you notes, but it is not designed to keep your document after you close the app. The one thing we do keep is a minimal, anonymous record needed to run Premium subscriptions.
The app itself does not keep your document or review results - they live in the app's memory and are gone when you close it. Creating a review sends your document to our server and a third-party AI service for processing (see Third-Party Processing).
The free version reviews one standard letter-size page at a time. Premium adds full-lease PDF upload. Either way, the document is processed and not intentionally stored.
To unlock and restore Premium, we store an anonymous app identifier and your subscription status. We never see or store your payment card - Apple handles billing (see Subscriptions & Payments).
If you use the website form, we may receive your name, email address, and question. Do not submit legal documents or sensitive personal information through that form.
BeforeYouSign currently supports English documents only. Results may not work properly for other languages.
Avoid uploading highly sensitive information unless it is truly needed for the review.
BeforeYouSign may temporarily process information you choose to scan or upload, including document text and images, so the app can provide plain English notes and possible questions to consider. To operate Premium subscriptions, the app also creates an anonymous identifier and stores your subscription status (see Subscriptions & Payments). We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email, or contact information through the app itself.
If you use the website Ask a Question form, we may receive the name, email address, and question you submit. The form is for app, website, feature, and support questions only. Do not submit legal documents, private documents, sensitive personal information, or questions asking for legal advice.
The free version allows one standard letter-size document page to be scanned or uploaded at a time. Premium is an auto-renewable subscription that adds full-lease PDF upload so the whole document can be reviewed in one pass. In both cases, your document is processed to generate the review and is not intentionally stored (see Document Storage).
The app itself does not keep your uploaded documents or review results - they are held in the app's memory and are gone when you close it. To create a review, your document is sent to our server, which processes it in memory and does not intentionally store it after the review is returned. The analysis uses a third-party AI service to read the document text (see Third-Party Processing below). Avoid uploading sensitive information that is not needed for the review.
Premium is sold as an auto-renewable subscription through Apple's In-App Purchase. All payment is handled by Apple - we never receive or store your card number or billing details. To unlock Premium and let you restore it on your device, our server stores a small record: an anonymous app identifier generated on your device, your current subscription status and expiry, and the transaction identifier Apple provides to verify the purchase. This record is not linked to your name, email, or real-world identity. You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time in your Apple ID account settings.
The app generates a random, anonymous identifier the first time it runs and stores it securely on your device. It is sent with requests so the server can apply usage limits and, for Premium users, recognize your subscription. It is not an advertising identifier, it is not shared for advertising, and it does not identify you personally.
Uploaded or scanned content may be temporarily processed to generate plain English summaries, review notes, possible concerns, and suggested questions. The anonymous identifier and subscription status are used only to operate the app and its subscription. Information submitted through the Ask a Question form may be used to respond to your question. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.

We use third-party providers to operate the service: a third-party AI provider (currently OpenAI) reads document text to generate review results; Apple processes subscription payments and provides the receipts we verify; and our hosting and database providers run the server and store the minimal subscription record described above. These providers process content only to help operate the service, and document content is processed temporarily rather than stored by us.
Document content is processed in memory for the review and is not intentionally retained after the result is returned. The subscription record (anonymous identifier, subscription status, and Apple transaction identifier) is kept while it is needed to provide and restore your subscription.
BeforeYouSign is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
